Chianti

AHHH Chianti…..Go to virtually any Italian restaurant and you will find it on the wine list. Such a common wine served with so many pasta dishes. The thing to know about Chianti is that it is not a grape. Chianti is a region in Italy. More specifically it is the region around Tuscany. For a wine to be called a Chianti it has to have come from that area and have been made with at least 85% sangiovese grapes. It can be made from up to 100% of these grapes but it must have at a minimum 85%.

Chianti is also a very good value wine. You can get some pretty good tasting Chiantis for around 10 dollars. This wine pairs well with all types of Italian foods. Many consider it…like most Italian wines to be very unpretentious. Italian wines have an image of being “built” for food. Chianti is no different in this aspect and to fully enjoy it it be sure to drink it with some of you favorite pasta dishes.
