This wine is a Merlot from Chile that we picked up while perusing the wine isles at our local Costco. We couldn’t resit it with a bold “90 points” baked right into the neck label. |
| $9 from Costco. |
 |
- Smells sweet with cloves and strong vanilla
- Tastes much dryer than it smells
- Blackberry and very aggressive vanilla tastes that grow stronger as the wine opens up.
- Like a smooth talking friend who is super nice but then one day suddenly get’s on your case about what is a non-issue and will not let it go… makes you want new friends.

Casillero del Diablo Concha Y Toro is a Cabernet from Chile. This is a companion reivew to the 2007 vintage that we also did. We recommend avoiding the 2007 for 1 or two more years. We had this with steak from the charcoal grill and it was a great pairing. |
| $9 from Fresh & Easy |
 |
- Fruit forward strawberry aromas.
- Earth and vanilla smells.
- At the right temperature, this wine is smooth and had velvety mouth feel that is even better after decanting.
- Great mix of fruit and earth.
- Slight peach taste at the end with flavors of apples on the tip of the tongue.
- She is spunky yet refined and able to strike the perfect balance between adolescent charm and lady like maturity. She is an example that hopefully her younger sister will follow.

Casillero del Diablo Concha Y Toro is a Cabernet from Chile. We would really like to try this same bottle again after a year or two of aging. This is a companion review to the 2006 vintage of the same wine. We recommend the 2006 for right now. |
| $9 from Fresh & Easy |
 |
- Fruitier aroma than the 2006.
- Aroma of leafy greens with a bit of fruit.
- Abrasive harsh bite in the taste.
- Too harsh and minerally. The harshness diminishes any positives and overpowers everything else.
- Not quite as refined as her older sister. This wine seems to be stuck in the terrible twos. Maybe with some aging and maturity she will develop and fulfill the promise of her older sibling

This is a Cabernet from Chile. We reviewed the 2005 in January and thought we would compare the 2007 to that vintage. Once again this wine falls below the 04 that we really liked. It is not a bad wine but just not up to the level of the 04. Give it a try with some grilled red meat and you might find this to be a decent wine that is worth the price. |
| $12 from Trader Joe’s |
|
- Hints of citrus with a strong alcohol scent
- Jammy aromas with spicy notes.
- Tastes of grapefruit
- A bit sharp on the tongue
- Overall mouth feel is a bit harsh and big with has a long finish
- This wine is definitely a food wine that would be great with a porterhouse steak and twice baked potato
- Bold and in your face like a school yard bully….taking it on by itself can be a bit overwhelming but pairing this wine with a hearty meal will take some of the edge off and reveal its softer side.

I picked this wine up to have with some people who were going to be sitting by the fire pit at our condo this evening. My choice for it was based on finding something new and since I had not had a Chilean wine in some time I figured I would give it a shot. Outside of the high acid content I would not say that I was disappointed. I suppose it would have been much better with a meal though. |
| $8 at Frys |
|
- Fruity but musty aroma
- Tastes of blackberries at first and a very slight hint of peaches
- Raisins and toasted oak mixed some black pepper
- A little more acidic than I normally like
- This wine is a little like dating a girl who can be very sarcastic…ya like her a lot but sometimes her sarcasm in front of others kinda makes ya cringe

This is a Merlot I picked up from Fresh and Easy on the way home from work. I was planning on having a nice burger on the grill and was looking for a decent wine to go with it. The bottle really stood out to me for some reason and I was compelled to pick it up. |
| $8.00 From Fresh and Easy |
 |
- Heavy aromas of alcohol
- Very acidic and harsh in the mouth
- Slight flavors of oak and berries
- The alcohol taste kind of masked the fruit and overpowered it
- This wine is kinda like kissing a good looking girl who has bad breath…something about the bottle attracted me but once I tasted it I knew that I would not want to go there again.

This wine is a Carmenere from Chile. Carmenere used to be grown in the Bordeaux region of France but is now only found in Chile. Carmenere tends to be a mellow grape that produces soft tannins and it is much more mellow than a malbec or cab. |
| $9 at Trader Joes |
 |
- Spicy and peppery with a little bit of smoke and oak.
- A masculine tasting wine in the sense that it is more earthy rather than fruity.
- A bit harsh on the tongue at first but decanting mellowed and rounded it out.
- Once decanted, oak, and a coffee flavors came out followed by slight berry tastes.
- Not very complex but very easy and enjoyable to drink.
- A great every day wine.
- Excellent wine for the price. Much like going into a gas station and buying a $1.00 scratcher and winning $20.00. It is not going to make you rich and will not do cartwheels down the street; but non the less, you are happy you picked up the ticket.

This wine is a Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile. Root 1 gets its name because it is “crafted exclusively from grapes grown on the original, ungrafted root systems”. The grapes come from some of the oldest root lineage in the world. I really enjoyed the 2004 version of this wine and would rate that one in the 4+ trophy range. The 2005 is much more robust, has more tannins and is not quite as smooth – yet still a very enjoyable wine, especially after some time in the decanter. |
| $12 |
 |
- Very dark ruby colored.
- Spice and dark berries in the bouquet.
- Plumb, cherry and spice flavors.
- Very robust with higher tannins – decanting is highly recommended.
- This wine is very nice with spicy and flavorful foods or red meats or pastas.
- A great bargain from Chile and definitely worth checking out. Her older sister (2004) may be a little smoother but perhaps with maturity this one will get there too.

This wine is a Merlot/Malbec blend from Chile. |
| $8 |
 |
- Citrus, grapefruit.
- Very pungent, bold.
- Spicy and a little peppery.
- Lots of tannins.
- Decanting highly recommended.
- Very good wine and there is a lot to it.
- A good wine with a lot going on…drinking it is kinda like watching the game and trying to pay attention to your wife talking to you about changing the color scheme of your kitchen.
